The FBI shut down megavideo/megaupload (you can read about it here popwatch.ew.com/2012/01/19/meg… )

Opinions of the people:

"Megaupload is but a small taste of what would happen should SOPA be enacted. Here you have a perfectly legitimate site that simply offered users file storage for whatever they wanted without any responsibility for what they uploaded. If something was reported, it was removed. How is this illegal in any way, at least under current law? I'm afraid much of the "older generation" simply doesn't understand how the Internet works. Until that generation is pretty much gone, they will continue to force ridiculous legislation like this on our freedom. If they were at all wise, they would try to stay away from attempting to legislate something they are clueless about." -Brad McIntosh

" IMAHO Shutting down Megaupload to stop piracy is no diffrent than shutting down stores to stop things getting stolen. It's just lame and another proof that USA is no longer the bastion of Democracy but merely a police state." -Orcun Sevinc

" for those of you who don't care about sopa? All I have to say is that youtube will be shut down because of that horseshit piece of toilet paper they call legislation, if you're going to use it use it for what it was made for: wiping you're arse and flushing away." -Barney Sasori Cheesman

" Megaupload was shit anyways. That was piracy, that type of website is one of the reasons why this whole SOPA thing started to begin with. I don't agree with SOPA, at all, it just shows the government doesn't need a shitty bill to shut down actual piracy websites and not fuck over everyone else in progress." -Zack Konietzny

" They shut down an extremely popular site for not only the USA, but the entire world. Megauplaod was NOT focused on just pirated content, it had perfectly legal content as well. This shows they can and will take down other sites, such as 4Shared, Rapidfire, Mediafire, etc. This isn't right." -Hanny Noueilaty

"So where does that leave me on the three animes that I'm watching that isn't available on any american website but only on japanese websites w/o subtitles. Megavideo was the only way I discovered a lot of these great shows. If it was available for me, I would purchase it. But guess what? There's no way it can be possible to have all shows/movies available to the US from other countries. So congress just said 'f*** you america, watch toddlers and tiaras'" -Anita Gameface Norris

Shortly after Megaupload had been shut down, Anonymous shut down the Universal Music & Recording Industry Association of America sites as a form of retaliation.
